Charlie Russell's work has been highlighted in the Director’s Cut at the Affordable Art Fair, London
Battersea 15 - 19 October, 2025
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news - my work has been chosen by Hugo Barclay, the Director of the Affordable Art Fair, London, as part of his "Director's Cut" for the upcoming Affordable Art Fair in London, alongside a wonderful selection of artists and galleries from around the world.
This October, I’ll be exhibiting at the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea Park, London, on Stand D7 with Margo in Margate - new to the show and highlighted as part of the "Must See New Galleries" Margo McDaid is a fellow artist who has been a long-time champion of my work. I’m delighted to be part of Margo’s exciting, Kent and female-focused presentation, which brings together a vibrant mix of artists connected by place, process, and perspective.
"Being selected as one of the Director’s highlights is a true honour and a wonderful milestone in my creative journey. It’s an opportunity to share my ceramic Talismans, Goddesses, and ritual pieces with new audiences who connect with the themes of healing, symbolism, and the quiet power of the objects we hold dear."
I’ll be at the Private View on Wednesday and again on the final day of the fair, Sunday 19 October, and I’d love for you to join me to celebrate, explore the fair, and see the work in person.

About Charlie Russell
Charlie Russell is a British ceramic artist living and working near Margate in Kent. Originally from the area, she returned in 2006 after completing her BA in Visual Communication (Illustration) at KIAD Maidstone. Initially, Charlie spent time creating jewellery and textile-based work before discovering her passion for ceramics in 2015 at Clayspace, a community interest ceramics studio in Margate.
In 2017, she began selling her work through the shop at Turner Contemporary in Margate, and she now creates from her home studio. Her earthenware sculptures are hand-built using simple, non-mechanical techniques. She employs handmade sprig molds, impressions from found objects, and hand-carved stamps. Her unique pieces are finished with gold and metal leaf, hand-painted designs and motifs inspired by nature, dreams, and symbolism.
Charlie has collaborated on projects with other artists and makers, including jewellery design with Reo Jewels of Margate and a series of ceramic works celebrating the lives of historical women with writer and broadcaster Gemma Cairney.
Drawing from a lifelong love of treasure hunting and her experiences working with house clearance companies, charity shops, boot fairs, markets, and antique dealers, Charlie creates work that examines the deep and often complex emotional relationship we have with the material world and the ephemera of life. She is particularly interested in how objects become meaningful and powerful, exploring the spectrum of desire for objects—from sentimentality, remembrance, protection, and devotion to obsession and hoarding.
Her work draws inspiration from women's personal and collective histories and the objects central to stories of transformation. Charlie's ceramic art joyfully explores themes of colour, nature, divination, symbolism, astrology, the Divine Feminine, the Great Mother Goddess, concepts of energetic interconnection, psychology, quantum physics, collective consciousness, talismans, relics, amulets, and devotional ceremonial objects.
You can buy pieces here on my website site or also keep an eye out for upcoming work via the online store at Turner Contemporary.
